MSR Groundhog Tent Stakes

These ground stakes are ideal for providing your primary pegging points and quylines with that extra security in all conditions. Being easy to drive in and pull out. I recently used them on my tarp tent on an exposed pitch on Dartmoor, with no problems achieving a solid pitch in loose peat type ground. These come highly recommended, and are a great light weight alternative to those pegs supplied with my tarp tent.

I did my research before buying these and I'm not disappointed. They are light and strong. A perfect match for my tarp. I like the pull cord (and the colour as well). The work well even in soft ground. I haven't tried them in very windy conditions though. Some people report they can bend if you use your foot to push them in the ground, but I have only used my hands so far. They are quite short and can be a little difficult to remove from frosty ground, but for summer camping they are ideal in my opinion. There is no carry sack included. They are not the cheapest stakes on the market, but I do prefer reliable quality products. All in all, I'm very happy with these.

I've used various brands of peg over the last few years, and having got some of the mini groundhogs with a Hubba tent, I bought some of the bigger version too. They are hands down the best ones I've used, and somehow just seem to hold even when you think they shouldn't. Used them to peg down a Rab Silwing in Snowdonia last week and despite the awful weather and unrelenting wind and rain they held - all the more amazing given it was the Silwing and not a proper tent, so our bodyweight wasn't keeping anything down! I've also tried various Chinese copies of these pegs, but none of those come close. The reflective cord on the top is surprisingly useful, and works very well.

BEST PEGS EVER! I have now replaced all my original tent pegs with these MSR Groundhogs. Not only are they lightweight, but they are also extremely strong and highly resistant to deforming whilst being repeatedly hammered into the ground. Whilst potentially a little expensive compared to other lesser pegs, I am sure these will far outlive any tent and be a faithful camping companion for years to come!

My first impression tells me they were a little sharp for the guideline but there been no problem on any tent that I used in strong wind. I been quite tuff with the stakes and firmly stick them to the ground with my shoe occasionally but they show no sign to bend. Luckily the cord helps me get them back. What a nice color I prefer it on these items and not on the tent. It takes a little longer to clean them compare to v-shape.
