New Thermarest Mats

Thermarest have been updating their mats in a rolling process by category over the past couple of years. This year it’s the turn of their Trek and Travel series. The Trek and Travel series of mats are a versatile range designed to by carried by backpackers without sacrificing too much in the way of comfort and durability. The main innovation this year is the addition of SpeedValve technology. Thermarest’s SpeedValve uses and effect called the Bernoulli principle to draw in surrounding air when you blow into the valve. Below is a video from Thermarest describing the effect.

The SpeedValve means that you can inflate your mat faster and using much less effort, great news if you want faster and hassle free setting up. Now on to the new range…

Thermarest NeoAir All Season SV

The NeoAir All Season SV is a redesign of the versatile NeoAir All season, now incorporating Thermarest’s Speed valve. The All Season in a very warm ThermaCapture technology insulated mat weighing just 650g (regular). The new addition of the Speed valve makes inflating the mat fast and hassle free. If you like getting out camping all year round and want a comfortable and packable mat this is the one for you.

The Trail King SV is a totally new addition to the Trek and Travel series. It combines the innovative AirFrame design and SpeedValve to create an incredibly rapid and hassle free self inflating mat. For summer camping trips where comfort is a priority, you’ll be set up and cracking open your first beer while everyone else is still struggling with their airbeds.

Thermarest Trail Pro and Women’s Trail Pro

The Trail pro benefits this year from the addition of an air bolster around the outside of the mat. This creates a raised barrier to stop you rolling off in the night. The women’s version is shorter but with the same amount of foam as the larger mats. This is distributed around the mat making it warmer. At 740g (regular) the Trail Pro is a durable self inflating mat for those ’active’ sleepers looking for comfort and a respectable amount of warmth.
