Let it snow…

The ski season is officially here! Whilst most of the UK has been shivering over the weekend, Europe has been getting an amazing start to the ski season.

Many of the European resorts are now open, including Val Thorens, Val d’Isere, Les Deux Alpes, Lech and Engelberg. It’s pretty chilly out there right now, but that will only help keep the slopes in great condition as they get busier, plus it gives you a good excuse to wear your shiny down jackets! More snow is forecast for the rest of this week, with a massive 187cm expected at La Clusaz, and the weather’s forecast to clear up by the weekend.

Closer to home Scotland already has two resorts open, Cairngorm and the Lecht, and plenty of people out touring (and winter climbing) already. There’s even been people ski touring in the Lakes and Snowdonia this past weekend, so we’ve all got our fingers crossed that it will keep shaping up to be a fantastic winter.

Snow in the Helvellyn area at the weekend - the ski tow on Raise was open!

It’s time to start waxing the skis, dusting off the ski boots, sharpening the axes and digging out the goggles. If you  haven’t already, then trawl the easyjet site, get those ski holidays booked, and let your thoughts drift to crisp snow, sweet turns, mulled wine and sunny days touring.

And if you need new kit, be it skis, clothing, avalanche safety or climbing gear – well, you know where to get it!
