Windows Clash with Suunto Software

The other day my copy of Suunto Training Manager refused to run, after some investigation I received this email from Suunto

Windows security patch released April 3 causes failure in Suunto Training Manager and Trek Manager software.

Solution available from Microsoft download center.

After updating the Windows XP with the latest security patch from Microsoft (released April 3, 2007) the Suunto Training Manager software will no longer run. Instead the following error message box appears: “The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the dll c:\windows\system32\hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windws System DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.”

The Suunto Training Manager and Suunto Trek Manager software are some of the third party programs affected by this issue.

Microsoft has issued a “hotfix” for this, which can be downloaded from their knowledgebase article 935448. Link is: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/en-us

Remember to choose the correct language when installing the fix, otherwise the installation will fail.

Hope that helps.
