The Black Diamond Ultralight Ice Screw is an amazing 45% lighter than the BD Express Screw. Designed for those who consider every gram these screws are ideal for ski mountaineering, glacier travel and everything that is truly alpine.
The Ultralight screw combines an aluminium body with a steel tip. The forged aluminium hanger features two-clip in points giving you flexible clipping options. Saving weight, the wire-gate Express handle clicks open and closed and features a colour coded grip making its length easily identified following the BD classic colour scheme.

This is a great addition to your winter rack, with razor sharp teeth, minimal weight on the rack and effortless screw mechanism with the flip out handle. It's a great piece of engineering. I'll opt for a longer one for crevasse rescue/ski tour use as this could still be a lot lighter than other screws of shorter length, and you might as well go for extra security at reduced weight. On the down side. . . . well. . . I couldn't find any. As ever BD strike gold.
