Full Description
The Petzl Irvis Hybrid Crampon is a lightweight 10 point crampon ideal for glacial approaches and ski mountaineering. It offers the best of both worlds between a super lightweight crampon and a full on mountaineering crampon. The front section of the crampon is steel and features good length front points and the choice between using a front strap or front bail. The rear section is aluminium, the same as the ultra lightweight Leopard crampons, and has a standard rear bail binding for any boot with a heel welt. Both front and rear sections have anti-balling plates making these crampons suitable for wearing over long periods in sticky snow conditions.
To connect the front and rear of the crampons Petzl have used their Cord-Tec linking system, which is essentially a tough piece of cord which attached to either and and can be looped around various notches to adjust the length of the crampon. This saves a massive amount of weight and is super easy to adjust - tools are not necessary - as well as being incredibly packable. It does mean that these crampons do not offer the same rigidity found on proper mountaineering crampons, so they are limited as to how technical the terrain can get.
