The DMM Dynatec 8mm Sling is as light as a sling can get without compromising strength, they're the same strength as the wider 11mm DMM slings. So if you're looking to get the weight of your rack down then the 8mm sling will help to shave extra grams. It's always a good idea to have a couple of thinner slings as they can be used on super narrow thread placements, especially as the stitched section is stiff and can be pushed through quickly.
Dynatec is a brand of dyneema which has allowed slings to become a lot thinner as it is lighter and stronger than more traditional Nylon and is also less susceptible to UV degradation. The disadvantage is that Dyneema does have a lower melting point than Nylon.
