Staff Picks – Arc’teryx Atom AR Hoody

The Atom AR Hoody, I think, is a great bit of kit. I use mine as a belay jacket, so it spends most of its time stuffed into the bottom of my pack and I’ll only bring it out when stopping (usually for lunch). It’s also great to wear round the campsite on cool evenings.

It’s packable and although it doesn’t have a stuff sack you can pack it into its arm – a great trick I recently discovered. Check out the video below for a demonstration:

It provides plenty of warmth, handles damp conditions without a problem and goes on over whichever outer layer I’m wearing. My favourite feature in particular is the collar. It’s only a small addition but it really keeps the warmth in and the wind out – it just takes a few seconds for me to warm up once I throw it on over all my layers. I also really like the hood, which is close fitting and great for windy days.

ABOUT STAFF PICKS
Throughout the week the staff at Facewest are constantly coming across all the stuff that’s on our website. As a result we often discover handy little features or particularly innovative or well designed aspects on many of the products we stock. Every so often they’ll be a short blog post from one of the staff at Facewest on a product they happen to have come across which really stands out, for whatever reason, as a great bit of kit.
