I recently took a new Petzl Tikka 2 Plus away with me for a weekend in the Scottish Highlands.
The first thing I noticed about the new version is it is definitely much brighter than the original. Petzl state a maximum beam of 35m which I found to be fairly accurate, I tested this while walking through a wood at night and gauging the beam length on the trees in front. Also, the single LED emits a much more favourable white light when compared to the older version which emits a more yellow light. The button on top is a bit bigger and slightly easier to operate. The integrated red LED was really useful to me when I was doing some night photography one evening. It’s really easy to switch between red and normal modes with a ‘press and hold’ of the button.
This is a good improvement on the original Tikka Plus. While the original was fine for camp tasks, DIY and home use the new version is much more suitable for walking and running at night due to the extra brightness.
