Gritstone

Here at Facewest we have been wearing through our finger tips in the past couple of weeks climbing on the local gritstone boulders after work.  With the prospect of 6 more months of light evening we’ve started with trips to Caley and Almscliff, ticking many of our favourite boulder problems and getting excited about the clocks changing in little over a week.

I also spent last weekend at the Roaches a group of large Gritstone buttresses in Staffordshire, typified by large overhangs and blank slabs.  I climbed almost everything on my tick list there except the Sloth and Saul’s crack that are currently bird banned.  The highlight was hitting the dyno at the top of Wings of Unreason, after getting over the disappointment of not being able to lank my way to the top (I’m 6″2″).
