The NZ good snow rumour gathers pace

Mt Dobson in New Zealand is aiming for its earliest opening in 27 years of operation with a planned season launch date of this Saturday, 27 May.

The southern hemisphere’s season normally kicks off first in Tiffindell resort, South Africa, and that resort has had a lot of early snow, but has not announced its opening date.

Mt Dobson, is located in the heart of New Zealand’s Mackenzie Country (where the great battle scene of Pelennor Fields in The Lord of the Rings was filmed).

The mountain’s snow grooming fleet has been busy, compacting and grooming all its main trails. Fairlie, the closest ski town to Mt Dobson, is a two hour drive from Christchurch.
